I'll explain; the animal is born with instincts, but it doesn't really know how to handle these instincts, they need to watch their parents, other animals That's how they know what they are supposed to do.

If you take them away from their natural habitat, it's only normal they would be slightly different than other animals from their breed. Any animal is born with instincts, but their growth and habitat control weather they'll use them or not. FYI: I'm not a professional, this is just a personal opinion.

Interesting perspective. I do understand where you're coming from, but at the same time I completely disagree. For everything you said about animalse, couldn't the same be said about us humans?

I'd say each of your arguments holds true. Many people from isolated tribes attack any outsiders they see. Does that mean those people don't have emotions?

Why do people put dogs to sleep after they bite someone and taste blood? The problem is that dogs are domesticated, meaning their natural habitat is with humans. They learn from both other dogs and humans alike. Puppies taken away from their mothers too early may act differently, but many manage perfectly well. Other dogs are raised perfectly, but they still end up biting someone. There are a million other explanations for dogs biting people, just like there are a million explanations for people killing other people.

Those people don't necessarily have to have had a difficult upbringing away from their "natural" environment. And as a side note, does that mean murderers don't have emotions? Sure, they may lack empathy, but saying they rely only on instincts is a bit of a stretch. Again, same with humans. Babies develop reactions to communicate with the environment they live in. If a baby never learned to communicate, would it not have emotions?

In the end, if humans evolved to have such complex emotions, why can't other animals — particularly mammals with quite similar brains to ours — have at least basic ones? Like you said, some cats are afraid of humans. Why is this fear only an instinct, not an emotion? Why does a mother chimpanzee care for its young, despite never having been taught how to do so?

Why is the love she has for them only a maternal instinct? What makes human love special? If humans and animals display something in similar ways, something that both developed for the same evolutionary reason, why do you have to label it as an emotion in one and an instinct in the other?

TL;DR: "Animals develop reactions due to the environment they live in, but they're not emotions. This meal is perfect for those with a sweet tooth! Another pro? Lettuce Wraps have been a long time favorite of mine. She kept the fish as friends and they are now monsters. Also, my horse. She is emotionally attached to me and has a bond.

If another animal tries to hurt me, she will injury herself trying to protect me. If I am sad, she will calm her usual fiery personality and become snuggly. If she is scared, I will open her door and sit there. As long as I am there she is okay, but if I walk away she gets worried. These processes won't be as complicated as humans, but the capability for basic emotions are there.

I think people think of the whole non-human animals vs humans in sentience and emotions look at it way too black and white. It's a very broad scale. Examples of animals close to our end include Elephants showing compassion and Vervet monkeys enjoying getting drunk.

They vary is degree from species to species You obviously have never had a house pet. My baby kittens and old cats have so much personality. Emotions, yes but they aren't people emotions. I'm geniuinely curious. My mom absolutely denies that animals have emotions, and everything they do are just pure instincts.

Couple of months ago, I had a cat. Actually, I adopted her from the streets. There are already a whole lot of them and they are scared shitless from any human being. This one I adopted wasn't scared, but her brothers and sisters and mother were living on the streets and got scared every time I walk by.

That led me to think that animals form a kind of perception by watching what the older animals do. For instance, a tiger in the jungle will rip your heart off, but the one living in a home is as sweet as a kitten, well not exactly, but you see my point.

The instincts are different. I'll answer with another question: Why do people put dogs to sleep after they bite someone and taste blood? I'll explain; the animal is born with instincts, but it doesn't really know how to handle these instincts, they need to watch their parents, other animals That's how they know what they are supposed to do.

If you take them away from their natural habitat, it's only normal they would be slightly different than other animals from their breed. Any animal is born with instincts, but their growth and habitat control weather they'll use them or not.
